Dr. Lolonis is the Head of the Geospatial Information Department at the Hellenic Cadastre. He has a diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece (1986), a Master of Arts in Geography from the University of Iowa, U.S.A. (1990) and a Ph.D. in the same field from the same institution in 1994. Dr. Lolonis specializes in cadaster, geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, and spatial analysis. He has authored (or coauthored) more than 30 research articles in international journals and conference proceedings. For his academic performance and work, Dr. Lolonis has received several awards by Greek and international organizations. For the past twenty-seven (27) years, he has been working for the Hellenic Cadastre and has held various scientific and managerial positions. Such positions include being a scientific expert (1996-1999), Head of the Research and Development Division (1999-2000), Coordinator of the Planning and Programming Department (2000-2003), Head of the Planning Office (2003-2007), Director of the Planning Department (2007-2010), member of the Scientific Council (2010-2018), and Head of the Geospatial-Information Department (2018-present). He is an active member of various scientific and professional associations, such as the Technical Chamber of Greece, the Hellenic Association of Rural and Surveying Engineers, the Hellenic Association of Geographic Information Science (HellasGIS), and the Hellenic Photogrammetric Association. Moreover, he is very active at the international level participating various prominent activities of organization such as the FIG (“deputy chair” of the FIG Commission-3 during 2007-2009), Eurogeographics (member of the CLRKEN, INSPIRE, PolKEN, QKEN and Positioning Forum knowledge exchange networks), World Bank (Doing Business Report), and the UN-GGIM (UNGEGN, IGIF, GGRF, GGCE, SDGs, and GRFCE working groups).
